映画『ミスター・ガラス(GLASS)』感想(ネタバレあり)

“Belief is contagious”(「信じること」は人から人へと伝染してく)
“We give each other permission to be superheroes”(我々はお互い、スーパーヒーローになることを許し合おう)

途中、「これはどうなの？」と思う部分も多々ありましたが、ラストのこれだけで『今までのあれやこれやに全てが意味がある』的納得感が得られてしまうシャマラン・マジック(笑)
これは、「一目気にせず、好きなことやろうぜ」とか、「ありのままのキミでいいんだよ」的な生っちょろいリベラリズムとは全く次元の違う、強烈なメッセージです。
ちなみに勿論、妄想拗らせたヲタを「君こそがヒーロー、君の価値を認めない世の中の奴らは、みんなクズ」と甘やかしているのでもありません(笑)

まあそんなわけで、世の中的には全く盛り上がってない感じですが(おかげで危うく前売り買い損ねそうに(笑))、相当面白い映画でした。

まずは、あらすじ的なもの

前作『split』で、ケイシー(アニャ・テイラー＝ジョイ)を殺さずに去ったケヴィン達(ジェームズ・マカヴォイ)。確実に指名手配されてる筈なんですが、なぜか捕まることもなく”供物”集めを継続中。
一方、”散歩”を繰り返すデイヴィッド(ブルース・ウィリス)は、ご機嫌で街を闊歩するヘドウィグと偶然ぶつかり、そこで得られた”ヴィジョン”を元に拘束された女の子達を助け出します。
が、ビーストと戦っている間に、完全武装の謎の勢力(笑)に取り囲まれ、牢屋同然の精神病院に放り込まれてしまいます。

病院を仕切っているのは、ドクター・エリー・ステイプル。
彼女は、イライジャ(サミュエル・L・ジャクソン)、デイヴィッド、そしてケヴィンに対して、「あなたたちは、自分が特別な人間だという妄想に取りつかれている」「あなた方がやったことは、全て既知の能力で説明できる」と、”説得”を繰り返します。

そんなこんなで、ついに自分の力に疑いを持ち始めるデイヴィッドとケヴィン。
しかし、イライジャは薬漬けにされた演技を続けながら、密かに薬や手術器具に細工をし、ついにはビーストを手なづけて病院を脱出。
その際、デイヴィッドには「超高層ビル(オオサカ・タワー)のオープニングセレモニー中に化学メーカーの入ったフロアを爆破するから、阻止してみろ」と言い残し、ドクター・ステイプルにはこのビル載った雑誌とメモを残します。

それを見て、『イライジャは、特別な人間の存在を証明するために、大勢の人とマスコミが集まるイベントを利用しようとしてる』と読んだドクター・ステイプル。早速、”兵隊”を呼んで阻止しようとします。

しかし、デイヴィッドとビーストが病院の庭で争っている間に、デイヴィッドの息子が登場。ビーストに向かって軍隊級のネタばらしをします。なんと、ケヴィンの父は妻子を捨てて出て行ったのではなく、デイヴィッドと同じ列車に乗り合わせて亡くなっていたから―――つまりは、イライジャがケヴィンの父を殺したのというのです。
逆上したビーストはイライジャの肩を潰し、肋骨をたたき割ります。
そして、デイヴィッドとビーストが潰し合いをしている間に、準備万端となった”兵隊”達。ビーストは彼らの銃で撃たれ、デイヴィッドは水たまりで溺死させられます。

彼らは実は皆、ある組織のメンバーでした。
その目的は、特別な力を持つ人間を秘密裏に潰し(または自分には力がないと思い込ませることで、その力を削ぎ)、この世界の秩序を維持すること。
今回も、見事にやりとげたと思いきや、実は死を覚悟したイライジャに、いいように操られていただけでした。
イライジャは、彼のために病院中に取り付けられた監視カメラを通じて、映像データを外部に流していたのです。

多くの人々が、ネットで『隠されていた事実』を知ることになります。そして、後追いをするように、テレビのニュース番組でも、ついにこの映像が流れ始めたのでした。

ドクターの言う『バランスと秩序』とは何か？

冒頭に上げた言葉の重さは、デイヴィッド達を”治療”しようとしたドクター・ステイプルの言葉(コレ↓)に、がっつりと表れています。

“maintaining balance”
“keeping order”
(バランスを保ち、秩序を維持すること)

“There just can’t be gods among us. It’s not fair”
(神扱いされるような能力のある人間は要らない。それはフェアではない)

さて、この『バランスと秩序』とは何でしょう？
これはどう見ても、人々がお互い自分の利益を守るために交わした”痛み分け”のシステムではありません。
多くの人に『俺ごときの力では何もできない』『どうせこの現状は変えようがない』と思い込ませることを必要条件とし、今の状態が一番居心地のいい人間達が、談合によって維持している利益誘導の仕組みです。

と、こう来ると『世界を陰で支配している闇の勢力』みたいな陰謀論っぽい話(別名『ムー』っぽい話(笑))になりますが、この映画の”闇の勢力”は、少々芝居がかっていて幼稚です。
まだ人に知られていない超人のヒントがないかと、大真面目にアメコミ漁りしている姿を見てると、こいつらの方が妄想にやられてるんじゃないかとすら思えてきます。
「1万年、これで上手くやってきた」という言葉と、前作で”群れ”の一人がうわ言のように話した戦いの記憶から察するに、相当古くからある組織のようですが、「そろそろ次の街に移動する」とか言っちゃってる辺り、ハイスキル人材がそれほど豊富というわけでもなさそうです。まあ、有力者がバックについている所為で、資金は潤沢で、警察に圧力をかけるだけの力は持っているようですが…。

とりあえず、たいした実力もなく現状でぬくぬくしている人達というのは、意外と恐怖耐性が低いのかなと思いました(笑)
この映画では、”broken”な人々こそが、それを補うために能力を開花させるという設定なので、より恐ろしいのかもしれません。彼らは決して現体制派ではなく、むしろそれに対して復讐心を持っている人達ですから。

傷つけられた者が立ち直るための第一歩

この映画では、”群れ”が何度もビーストの力を疑い、そのたびに自分に『信じる』と言い聞かせています。
ぶっちゃけ、『罪の意識もなく、フツーじゃない人間を傷つけ続けるフツーの人間』だというだけで襲うビーストは、崇拝の対象としては不適切なわけですが、少なくとも自分達に反撃できる力があると信じることは、人としてとても大切なことでしょう。
ケイシーにとって、虐待を繰り返してきた養父をムショ送りにするという行為が”必要な儀式”だったのと同じことです。
イライジャにとっては、“superheroes”を自分が”create”し、それが人々の意識を変えたと信じることが”必要な儀式”でした。

でも人間、本来なら”その先”があった筈です。
自分に何ができると信じるのか―――その”何”のレベルを上げていくことは出来た筈です。
なのに彼らは、壊されることでそれを補うための並み外れた能力を手に入れたものの、人並みの自尊心を取り戻すところまでで人生を終えてしまいました。
イライジャの“I wasn’t a mistake”は、本当に胸が痛くなるセリフでした。

“Will you stay in the light with me for a little while?”

ケイシーのこの台詞の意味は、ケヴィンには正しく伝わったようで、それだけが僅かな救いです。

で、やっぱりマスコミって、こういうネタでは『後追いで渋々と』？(笑)

最後に笑かしてくれたのが、皆がスマホで例の流出動画に夢中になっている中、ものすごく遅ればせながら駅のＴＶでこのニュースが流れる様子が映ったこと。
マスコミは今や、速報性の点では当事者のネット発信には敵わないし、出資者やCM出稿元のフィルターがかかってるんじゃないかという意味で、発信内容まで疑われてる。つまり、ファクトチェックという価値まで失いかけているわけで、そろそろ本気で存在価値を再確立しないとヤバいんじゃないかと思いました。
いや、本当に余談ですけど(笑)
